West Michigan JR Gold Tour is a USBC Youth scratch tournament qualifier for the prestigious North Pointe JR Gold Championship. Winners of each event will earn a paid entry this major National Youth event. We do not give out prizes/awards, but offer more JR Gold spots based on number of bowlers per group. We are in full compliance with the MHSAA rule of amateur award status.
We run 3 age Divisions: U12, U15, and U20. Boys and Girls separate groups. JR Gold Spots are awarded on a basis of: U12 Division, 1:4; U15 &U20 Division, 1:8 odds. In event less than minimum bowlers are in a group, tournament Director has right merge same age groups to meet minimum of bowlers needed. See tournament rules & flyer for exact age cut, and ratio details.
Why bowl in JR Gold events? North Pointe JR Gold Championship is a National Tournament program. I like to call it the equivalent of a Super bowl in Youth bowling. Held once per year in July, this Championship event has been in various cities across the U.S. Hundreds of college coaches will be on hand to scout out future prospects for their program and a great way to make contacts, and talk with college teams. A huge bowling expo will be on site with exhibits/display so you can see, try, and demo the latest bowling equipment. This is a great way to see and be seen by potential colleges that you may have future interest in. North Pointe JR Gold will also be awarding thousands of dollars in college scholarship, to the top performers in each group. Also is the opportunity for bowlers to earn a spot on the world famous” JUNIOR TEAM USA”, and be trained by today’s top Pro bowling coaches in the world at the International Bowling Training facility in Arlington TX in the U15 &U20 Divisions.
High school bowling is great. It teaches team spirit, lane play, mental toughness. But that is not enough when it comes to being prepared for college bowling. Most H.S. programs bowl on just one oil pattern. In our tournaments, each event will feature a different sport pattern. Usually found on the popular Kegel, or WTBA website. These patterns are just what your bowler will experience when they bowl at college level. Exactly what today’s college bound bowlers need. Sport bowling takes time and experience to master the different lane play, ball changes, reading ball/lane reaction, mental focus. I can’t stress enough how important the mental game is. Any Pro athlete spends a great deal of time working on their mental game.
With experience in sport shot bowling, many of our youths will progress the level of their game past what H.S. bowling alone will do. These youths will be better prepared for the challenge of college bowling, and take their game to the next level on these conditions. This is not for everyone, but if you have a desire to bowl in college, this experience is necessary. Waiting till your last year in H.S. will not prepare you for college bowling. As said before, it takes time, practice, and discipline. However it is worth all the efforts you put in.
